About the Appalachian Mountain Club:

The Appalachian Mountain Club, which originated in 1876, promotes outdoor activities and conservation in the mountains of the northeastern United States. AMC's 70,000+ members enjoy volunteer-led local trips, club-wide major excursions, and workshops in Delaware Water Gap, the Catskills, and New Hampshire. In addition, the AMC supports conservation activities. At the local level, conservation may include trail maintenance and river clean-ups. The Club has also been a leader in the protection of Sterling Forest outside New York City and in the Northern Forest Alliance, a consortium of groups interested in the protection of the Adirondacks, and the forests of New England. Staff scientists conduct air quality research in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and become involved in dam re-licensing negotiations on selected rivers.

The twelve chapters vary in the activities they offer. All offer hikes, and bike rides. Some offer cross-country skiing, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, and social events, depending on the interests and skills of local volunteer leaders.
