The 2008 Fall Gathering is scheduled for Sandy Hill Camp, which overlooks the Elk River as it empties into the Chesapeake Bay.
Location: Sandy Hill Camp is nestled on 211 acres of unspoiled forests, fields, and beaches overlooking the Chesapeake Bay 6 miles south of North East, Maryland and 30 miles from the New Jersey Turnpike. Detailed driving directions to the camp will be sent to registrants. For information about area attractions, near by restaurants, accommodation alternatives, and transportation options, click here.
Camp accommodations: Bunks are in rooms (12 beds/room) in recently constructed heated lodges. Each lodge contains both men’s and women’s rest rooms with hot showers. Attendees staying in the lodges will need to bring pillows, blankets, linens and towels. Male or female only lodge rooms may be requested. An open area near the lodges is available for tents and RVs. Saturday meals and Sunday breakfast will be served cafeteria style and a vegetarian option is available. A Friday evening meal from 7-9 is available at an additional cost to be paid on site.
Program: For those who arrive early, we will have a Friday afternoon hike, meal and evening reception. Hikes, along with water activities and biking, will continue all day Saturday and on Sunday morning. Also available on Saturday are boat rides down the river to the bay. After dinner on Saturday night, Chris Cerino of the Sultana project will relate the reenactment of Captain John Smith’s voyage on the Chesapeake Bay. Afterwards, the Chester River Runoff, a noted Chesapeake Bay bluegrass group, will perform. Click here for a complete program. Check here for a list of hikes, bike and kayak trips. Questions?
